Porcelain veneers are comprised of thin porcelain material and are used to imitate the natural look of teeth while providing the resilience and strength of natural tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers are the most frequently used material of choice for patients looking for alterations in shape, size, color, or position. At RA Dental Studio, Dr. Akbar provides porcelain veneers for patients in Marietta, GA and the nearby areas.
Porcelain veneers are naturally more stain resistant than composite veneers however composite veneers are thinner and require less tooth surface to be removed prior to application. Dr. Akbar can assist you with selecting the veneer which best meets your needs.
What dental concerns do dental veneers address?
Dental veneers are used for:
- Discolored teeth whether from root canal treatment, excessive fluoride, tetracycline, or resin fillings which have discolored the teeth.
- Worn down teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Misaligned teeth or teeth that are uneven or misshapen
- Teeth that have gaps in between
The Porcelain Veneer Process
Composite veneers that are resin based can be applied in one appointment. Whether you receive porcelain or ceramic veneers, you can expect the same process which includes:
Preliminary – The first office visit where x-rays are taken
Preparation – Doctor Akbar will trim about a millimeter of the tooth enamel in order to make preparations for the veneers. She will then take a mold of the teeth that will be sent to the lab so the veneers can be prepared. This takes one to two weeks.
Placement – Once the veneers are prepared, Dr. Akbar will review the color and prepare the tooth by cleaning it then roughening the tooth surface in order to help the veneer better adhere to the surface. A special cement attaches the veneer to the tooth and an ultraviolet light is used to harden it.
Preservation – Dr. Akbar may schedule a follow up visit within the first few weeks after your procedure to ensure the veneers are properly affixed.
